Stackable cargo allow other goods to be placed on top of it. The upper part of the packaging must be uniform and flat to support other goods to be place on top without any risk of them being unstable. The packaging must also be strong enough to withstand additional weight.
The Department of Transportation (DOT) defines a hazardous material (HAZMAT)as a substance or material that is capable of posing an unreasonable risk to health, safety, and property when transported in commerce, and has been designated as hazardous under the federal hazardous materials transportation law (49 U.S.C. 5103). The term includes hazardous substances, hazardous wastes, marine pollutants, elevated temperature materials, materials designated as hazardous in the Hazardous Materials Table (see 49 CFR 172.101), and materials that meet the defining criteria for hazard classes and divisions (see 49 CFR 173.2). (49 CFR 171.8). Dangerous goods(DG) that when transported are a risk to health, safety, property or the environment. These goods are substances that may be corrosive, flammable, explosive, spontaneously combustible, toxic, oxidizing, or water-reactive. These goods can be deadly and can seriously injure or kill people, damage property and the environment. Numbers of dangerous substances are covered under the Dangerous Goods Act 1985 and the Dangerous Goods (Storage and Handling) Regulations 2012, as well as other regs covering transport of these substances.
